A Chapter of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives
The Mission and Commitments of NJCPM are to:
Build a cohesive, influential, diverse, and effective CPM workforce in New Jersey
Invest in a strong, racially, ethnically, and socially representative CPM workforce to meet the needs of childbearing people in New Jersey
Work to increase access to midwifery care, especially in underserved communities, and to integrate CPMs into the New Jersey healthcare system
Ensure safe, high-quality, respectful care for all women and childbearing people that improves outcomes, avoids unnecessary medical interventions, and locates power over the birth experience with the woman or person giving birth
Oppose the oppression of childbearing people, including the impacts of racism, sexism, misogyny, and gender-based and obstetrical violence
Advocate for effective state public policy, statute, and regulations that center the needs of CPMs and the people they serve
Offer opportunities for CPMs to share their stories, best practices, resources, and learnings
Provide educational opportunities for midwives and advocates
Empower, connect, and support CPMs
NJCPM is working hard this year advocating for the Midwifery Licensing Act through the Garden State Birth Coalition
This is what the bill will do:
A5527/S4487 will create a New Jersey Independent Board of Midwifery, led by licensed midwives!
The bill will allow midwives to practice independently to the full scope of their education and certification!
The bill will grant independent prescriptive authority to CNMs and CMs, regulated by the Board, and allow CPMs to use a formulary of medications for safe childbirth!
The bill will allow all New Jersey licensed midwives to sign Temporary Disability forms – reduce bureaucratic burden!
Join us in advocating for passage of The Midwifery Licensing Act! You will be making history!
